Trump to Skip Key Ukraine Summit Discussion

The United States President is expected to participate in a core virtual meeting with Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon, but will likely not join a subsequent discussion involving a dedicated group of supporting nations.

Speaking in Berlin on Wednesday, Deputy Government Spokesperson Steffen Meyer indicated the President’s participation would be focused on a central meeting format. “We do not anticipate the US President will participate in the third call, which involves what is being referred to as the ‘Coalition of the Willing,'” Meyer stated in response to a query. “Rather, there will be a core call involving European heads of state, President Zelenskyy and the US President.

According to Meyer, a series of three virtual meetings are scheduled to begin at 2 PM local time. The first will be a video conference including several European heads of state and government, along with the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council and the NATO Secretary General. This will be followed by the central meeting format and subsequently, the third meeting involving the “Coalition of the Willing”.
