Two Suspects Arrested in Görlitz House Collapse Linked to Fatal Gas Explosion

Two suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the building collapse in Görlitz, an event that resulted in three fatalities. A spokesperson for the Görlitz police informed the MDR on Sunday that the suspects allegedly damaged or manipulated pipelines in the building on May 18, which led to a gas explosion. Authorities are investigating the case on suspicion of causing an explosion with fatalities in concert with negligent homicide.

According to the police, the two men were in several streets in Görlitz on the day of the incident, searching for stolen goods. Their interest was particularly focused on bicycles, scrap metal, and colored metal. It has been confirmed that they were also present in the collapsed building located at James-von-Moltke-Straße 21. What exactly transpired there remains under investigation. An examination of the basement areas could not yet take place because the debris still needs to be cleared.

The police are requesting assistance from the public to help clarify the crime. They are specifically asking for witness accounts and video footage taken by surveillance cameras in the vicinity of the accident site. A reward of 5,000 euros is being offered for any information that leads to the resolution of the case.
