Ukraine Talks: Germany’s Merz to Meet with White House Officials

Berlin – Details surrounding the upcoming Ukraine meeting at the White House remain fluid, though a substantive exchange between Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the U.S. President is anticipated, according to Deputy Government Spokesperson Steffen Meyer. Speaking in Berlin on Monday, Meyer indicated the meeting is occurring outside of typical protocol, having developed on short notice and therefore precise scheduling details are still being finalized.

The Chancellor will travel to Washington with a clear objective: to underscore the strong coordination and unified approach of European actors in their support of Ukraine and to reinforce the alliance with the country. Meyer emphasized the need for a pathway towards a just and sustainable peace, urging an immediate end to the violence.

The White House summit will see U.S. President Donald Trump receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Several European leaders are accompanying President Zelenskyy, including Chancellor Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Arrangements are being made to communicate the outcomes of the discussions following the meeting.
