London is set to host a high-level security summit this Saturday, bringing together representatives from the United States, Ukraine and European nations. The British government confirmed the meeting will be co-chaired by Foreign Secretary David Lammy and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
The summit takes place against the backdrop of scheduled talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday.
A Downing Street spokesperson stated that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a morning conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Both leaders agreed the Saturday summit represents an “important forum” to discuss progress towards a “just and lasting peace.
They welcomed President Trump’s stated desire to bring the conflict to an end, while underscoring the continued necessity of maintaining pressure on Putin to cease his “illegal war”. The Prime Minister reiterated his “unwavering support for Ukraine and its people” according to the statement.
