Ukraine Warns Against Russia Concessions Before Trump Meeting

Ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, cautioned against making concessions to Russia.

Speaking to HR Info, Makeiev stated that peace cannot be achieved through rewarding the aggressor. “Whoever rewards Russia today destroys the international legal system. Such compromises open Pandora’s Box for Europe. And ultimately: territory is not abstract – millions of people live there” he explained, referencing the potential for territorial concessions.

The Ukrainian Ambassador outlined clear expectations for the meeting taking place Monday evening in Washington. “We yearn for peace” Makeiev stated, “but it is very important that all our partners, including President Trump, understand that Putin is playing for time and we cannot afford to trust him.

Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House. Following the bilateral discussion, the meeting is expected to expand to include prominent European leaders. Those attending include Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union in Germany, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
