Union Berlin Suffers Defeat Against Hoffenheim in Bundesliga Match
The 1. FC Union Berlin side lost 2-4 to 1899 Hoffenheim at their Alte Försterei stadium in a Bundesliga encounter on Sunday.
The match saw early action with Touré narrowly missing a chance in the fifth minute, failing to beat Union Berlin goalkeeper Rönnow. Union Berlin almost took the lead themselves in the 19th minute, but Burke’s shot was cleared off the line by a diving Baumann.
However, Hoffenheim were awarded a penalty just before halftime, in the first minute of added time and Kramaric successfully converted it after Touré was penalized for an elbow in the penalty area. Hoffenheim added to their lead in the third minute of added time, with Asllani scoring a header from a Lemperle cross.
Union Berlin quickly reduced the deficit shortly after the restart, with Ansah pushing the ball over the line in the 49th minute following a series of deflections. This was short-lived as Asllani scored again in the 51st minute, capitalizing on an unfortunate clearance from Khedira.
Union Berlin managed to pull a goal back in the 71st minute when Rothe found the net from a goalmouth scramble following a corner. Ten minutes later, Rothe received a red card for bringing down Lemperle, who subsequently scored the resulting penalty with a chip. Despite a late push, Union Berlin ultimately couldn’t overcome the deficit.
