Union Berlin kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
The match saw an early opportunity for Stuttgart in the 12th minute, with a powerful header from Chabot following a cross from Mittelstädt, expertly saved by Union’s goalkeeper Rönnow. However, it was Union Berlin who broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. Forward Ansah showcased a stunning volley from 25 meters, sending the ball into the net beyond the reach of the Stuttgart goalkeeper.
Stuttgart pressed for an equalizer, with Vagnoman failing to capitalize on a chance in the 31st minute and Karazor hitting the woodwork in the 44th following a through ball. Instead, Union extended their lead into added time of the first half. Again, Ansah found the net with a direct shot from 15 meters, giving the home side a comfortable two-goal advantage at the break.
The second half witnessed Stuttgart increase their attacking pressure. Undav threatened early, hitting the crossbar in the 49th minute and Karazor narrowly missed with a header in the 57th.
However, Union Berlin’s defense proved resilient, limiting Stuttgart’s opportunities for a significant period. The visitors finally found the back of the net in the 86th minute with a spectacular goal from substitute Tiago Tomas, who curled a shot past the goalkeeper and off the post, but the goal came too late to mount a comeback.
Union Berlin secured a valuable three points to begin their season, while Stuttgart will reflect on missed chances.
