Sepp Müller, Vice Chairman of the labor union faction, is demanding that Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume promptly and transparently inform workers about the planned job cuts in Germany and outline future job prospects. Müller told the “Rheinische Post” that “thousands of workers and their families are affected by these job reductions. They need clarity and a future perspective right now.” The CDU economic policy expert also stressed the government’s role, stating, “We, as the state, set the framework conditions. Therefore, we must achieve results with reforms so that production and investment in Germany become more worthwhile again. We also still have a long way to go regarding lowering energy prices.” Furthermore, he added that Volkswagen must rectify management errors, suggesting the conglomerate appears to have misjudged developments in areas such as e-mobility, software, and China. Müller made it clear that job cuts alone cannot constitute a viable future strategy.
