In the current “Sunday Trend” survey released by the polling institute Insa, the CDU continues to lose public support. The chancellor’s party clocked in at only 20 percent, a drop of one percentage point, placing it significantly behind the AfD, which remained stable at 28 percent, according to reporting by Bild. For both the CDU and CSU, this marks the lowest reading from Insa since October 2021.
Meanwhile, Die Linke was the sole party to gain ground, reaching 12 percent, a figure matched by the SPD. The Greens, the FDP, and BSW all held steady with 13, 5, and 3 percent, respectively.
Satisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and the government as a whole remains at extremely low levels. Insa found that 78 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with the chancellor’s work, while only 16 percent were satisfied. Consequently, dissatisfaction with the federal government also reached a new high.
Insa head Hermann Binkert told Bild that support is currently at such low levels and rejection so high as never before. He suggested that the trend “probably cannot be reversed,” noting that even the remaining support for the governing parties is now predominantly skeptical of the government.
