According to the latest “Sunday Trend” survey conducted weekly by the polling institute Insa for “Bild am Sonntag”, the Union’s support has dropped to 21 percent, representing its lowest standing since late 2021. This decline shows a one-percentage-point loss compared to the previous week.
The figures for other major parties remained unchanged from the prior week: AfD holds at 29 percent, while the SPD measured 12 percent, the Green Party 14 percent, The Left party 11 percent, and BSW recorded 3 percent. The FDP also registered 3 percent, with all other smaller parties combining for a total of seven percent (plus one).
Furthermore, dissatisfaction regarding Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) continues to rise sharply. In the survey, 77 percent of respondents reported being dissatisfied with the Chancellor’s work-a six-point increase from the poll conducted at the end of April. Conversely, only 15 percent of those surveyed expressed satisfaction, a four-point drop compared to that earlier assessment.
Hermann Binkert, head of Insa, views these metrics as a clear warning sign for the federal government. He told “Bild”: “A government that cannot convince even its remaining own voters will fail. The level of dissatisfaction goes far beyond what is typical in the second year of a new federal administration.”
Insa surveyed 1,206 people between June 1 and June 5, 2026, to compile the latest edition of the “Sunday Trend” for “Bild am Sonntag”.
