The CDU/CSU considers a stricter blood‑alcohol limit for cyclists to be essential and also urges higher fines. Transport politician Christoph Ploß told the Rheinische Post on Saturday that it must not be possible to ride a bicycle while wildly drunk without consequence. He added that such behaviour mainly endangers pedestrians and other road users, and therefore the alcohol threshold for cyclists should be significantly lowered. Ploß also said that penalties for drunken cycling must be tightened, calling for higher fines for intoxicated “Rambo” cyclists. A recent survey conducted on behalf of the German Road Safety Council shows that a majority support a stricter blood‑alcohol limit for cyclists.
