CDU foreign policy expert Jürgen Hardt is calling for the European Union to adopt a clear, unified approach when handling issues involving Russia. He stated that the independent actions taken by the EU Council President, which led to contentious discussions, have sent a misguided message to Moscow. Speaking to the TV channel “Welt” on Friday regarding the unannounced Russia-related initiative, Hardt emphasized that “we must reach a point in the European Union where we speak with one voice on foreign policy.”
Hardt added that Russia often fundamentally misunderstands the democratic and pluralistic processes unfolding in Europe. He argued that instead of perceiving unity, they instead only see conflict and weakness, a situation he deemed regrettable given the current messaging.
