US-EU Trade War Ends Soon

Negotiations between the European Union and the United States regarding trade disputes are progressing constructively, according to the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann. Speaking to the German publication “Handelsblatt”, Cormann expressed optimism about a potential resolution in the near future.

Cormann noted that the European side is currently viewing the situation positively and that the discussions are advancing in a constructive manner. He also highlighted the incentive for the United States to reach an agreement, stating that trade barriers ultimately harm all parties involved.

The comments come as US President Donald Trump recently announced new tariffs against several countries, though the EU was not specifically informed. Officials in Brussels indicated that negotiations are ongoing and hopes remain for a breakthrough by Tuesday or Wednesday. The United States already levies additional tariffs of 25 percent on vehicles and auto parts and 50 percent on steel and aluminum products. President Trump has also threatened to impose general import tariffs of 50 percent. The situation remains fluid pending further developments in the ongoing trade discussions.
