US-Iran Deal Criticized: Politician Warns Agreement Ignores Aggression and Human Rights Crisis

Omid Nouripour, a Green party politician and Vice President of the Bundestag, has issued a warning against allowing the shortcomings within Iran to be overlooked following the recent agreement between the United States and Iran. According to Nouripour, the global community desires an end to the conflict and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, though he noted that many key details of the agreement remain vague. He stressed that a deal alone will not eliminate the catastrophic human rights situation in Iran, nor will it halt the regime’s regional aggression. Nouripour cautioned that concentrating solely on issues like uranium while ignoring the plight of the people would merely repeat the errors of the past.

In contrast, Dirk Jandura, the president of the Federal Association of Wholesale, Foreign Trade, and Services (BGA), expressed optimism regarding the deal. Jandura conveyed to the “Rheinische Post” that current reports give great hope that the conflict in the Middle East will soon subside. He particularly welcomed the planned reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as this could allow vital supply chains for raw materials and precursors to resume operations.

While optimistic, Jandura tempered his view by warning that full normalization will take some time. He pointed out that damaged infrastructure must be repaired, production capacities must be raised again, and disrupted transport chains must be rebuilt. He noted positively that markets are already reacting, with oil prices softening, which will provide relief to both businesses and consumers. The BGA president emphasized that the crucial next step will be transforming the political declaration of intent into a sustainable peace agreement.

The agreement between the United States and Iran is currently scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday.
