US Stocks Mixed Amid Earnings Season

US equity markets presented a mixed performance on Tuesday, closing with varying degrees of fluctuation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average concluded trading in New York at 44,502 points, marking a 0.4% increase compared to the previous day’s close.

Shortly prior, the broader S&P 500 registered a slight gain of 0.1%, reaching approximately 6,310 points. The Nasdaq 100, however, experienced a decline, settling at around 23,065 points, representing a 0.5% decrease.

Sentiment was dampened by the release of General Motors’ quarterly report, highlighting the impact of increased import tariffs implemented by the US administration on the automotive sector. The company reported a decline in profits for recent months, leading to a nearly 8% drop in its stock price. Disappointing news also emerged from the defense and tobacco industries, further influencing market perceptions.

The Euro strengthened against the US Dollar, trading at $1.1750, with the Dollar worth €0.8511.

Gold prices saw a notable increase, reaching $3,432 per fine ounce, a 1.1% rise. This equates to €93.92 per gram.

Conversely, the price of crude oil decreased. Brent North Sea crude was priced at $68.82 per barrel, representing a 39-cent or 0.6% decline from the previous day’s closing price.
