US stock markets delivered a mixed performance on Tuesday. By the close in New York, the Dow Jones calculated a gain of 0.2 percent, reaching 50,872 points compared to the previous day. However, other indices were struggling; the broader S&P 500 finished slightly lower, down 0.3 percent at approximately 7,385 points. Similarly, the Nasdaq 100, tracking technology stocks, was down 1.1 percent at around 29,085 points.
Although the trading day began with a continuation of the recent recovery among tech stocks, these corporate shares eventually declined. Given that this sector is particularly sensitive to interest rate policy, investors likely became cautious, especially in light of the current inflation environment.
In other markets, the Euro showed some strength on Tuesday evening, exchanging at $1.1541 per Euro, making the dollar available for 0.8665 Euros.
Commodity prices saw significant drops. The price of a fine ounce of gold decreased noticeably, settling at $4,257 in the evening (-1.7 percent), which equated to €118.58 per gram. Crude oil also fell sharply; the Brent North Sea grade barrel traded at $91.65 on Tuesday evening (around 10 PM German time), a decrease of 2.8 percent, or 260 cents, from the previous day’s closing figures.
