VfL Wolfsburg Dismisses Coach Bauer and Director Christian, Names Hecking to Steer Clear of First Bundesliga Relegation

VfL Wolfsburg appears to be severing ties with head coach Daniel Bauer immediately, according to Kicker, which cites its own sources. General manager Peter Christiansen is also leaving the club at once.

Bauer, who was appointed head coach just last December 2025, will be replaced by Dieter Hecking, who previously led the club from 2013 to 2016. Hecking is expected to steer Wolfsburg clear of their first-ever Bundesliga relegation.

At the moment Wolfsburg sit in second‑to‑bottom position. They trail the 16th‑place relegation zone by two points, but both clubs directly above them – Werder Bremen and FC St. Pauli – have each played one game fewer. In the second half of the season, Wolfsburg has earned only two points.
