Von der Leyen Demands “Real Ceasefire” in Lebanon Amid Push for Middle East Stability

Following the agreement between the United States and Iran on a framework for ending the war, the EU is also pushing for a genuine ceasefire in Lebanon. Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, stated on Monday, “Naturally, there can be no peace in the Middle East as long as Lebanon is ablaze.” She added, “Europe is once again calling on all parties to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and to implement a real ceasefire.”

Regarding the deal between the US and Iran, Von der Leyen emphasized that the immediate and complete implementation by all parties is the top priority. She noted that “this agreement should enable the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.” She stressed that the freedom of navigation-without transit fees-must be restored, declaring that “this is crucial for regional stability and the global economy.”
