VW and Rivian Expand Software Partnership, Berlin Location Planned

Volkswagen is significantly expanding its joint venture with US electric vehicle technology company Rivian, focusing on software development. According to a report by business magazine Capital, the partnership is poised to establish its first non-American location in Berlin later this year.

This joint venture holds strategic importance for Volkswagen as it spearheads the development of central software controls for the automaker’s forthcoming vehicle models, leveraging Rivian’s expertise in the field.

The collaboration reportedly involves a projected investment of nearly $6 billion from Volkswagen, positioning the German giant to become a leading shareholder in Rivian, alongside technology conglomerate Amazon. Currently, the joint venture employs approximately 1,100 full-time staff, indicating a rapidly growing operation focused on shaping the future of automotive software.
