Wadephul Demands Greater European Voice in U.S. Iran Strategy Ahead of G7 Summit

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) urged a stronger European role in the United States’ strategy on the Iran conflict before his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the G7 summit.
“We as Europeans must be included in the U.S. thinking about how this war can be ended” Wadephul told RTL/ntv. “Therefore we need to know when and under what conditions the war can be concluded”. He warned that the stakes are high: “Our economy is heavily affected, and energy prices are rising”.

At the same time, Wadephul offered Germany’s support to the United States. “We are a partner alongside the U.S”. he said. “Germany has a strong diplomatic network in the region that will certainly aid the U.S. in this moment. We are always ready to help as a military ally”. He also signaled Germany’s willingness to contribute to securing a future peace, noting that “that can be discussed”.
