Following the influx of migrants into the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, Manfred Weber, chairman of the Christian Democrats in the European Parliament (CSU), issued a warning that the consequences will extend beyond Spain. Speaking on ZDF’s “Heute Journal,” Weber stated, “Europe must not allow this to happen.” He expressed incomprehension that the Spanish government failed to seek European assistance. The CSU politician stressed that “Ceuta is not just Spanish territory, but also European territory,” arguing that the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, must be strengthened. Weber added that the current progressive Spanish government must take action to ensure that such events do not happen again.
