Weight Watchers Germany Shutting Down

Weight Watchers is restructuring its German operations, integrating the German subsidiary into its Dutch counterpart. According to filings with the Düsseldorf district court, WW Deutschland GmbH will transfer all assets and liabilities to WW Netherlands, effectively dissolving the German entity without liquidation.

The move, revealed in Handelsregister documents, is intended to streamline operations within the broader Weight Watchers group. A spokesperson for the company emphasized that the restructuring will not impact the ongoing activities of Weight Watchers in Germany. The community, both in-person and digital workshops, remain a key component of the business and will continue to serve members.

The restructuring follows a recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in the United States, concluded in late June. This action was taken as the company faces increased competition from emerging weight management solutions, including injectable therapies.

Financial records indicate 439,955 people participated in Weight Watchers workshops last year. The German subsidiary has experienced a reduction in staff, decreasing from an average of 93 employees in 2023 to 40 by the end of 2024. The company maintains that its commitment to the German market remains strong despite these organizational changes.
