SV Werder Bremen secured a 1-0 victory over FC St. Pauli in a Bundesliga match played at the Weserstadion. The home side enjoyed a dream start, with Mbangula finding the back of the net in the second minute after a clearance fell perfectly to him from a Njinmah cross. St. Pauli’s Pereira Lage nearly responded just moments later, but was denied by Bremen’s goalkeeper Hein.
Werder Bremen had a further opportunity to extend their lead in the ninth minute, but Sugawara’s shot was directly at the opposing goalkeeper, Vasilj. A subsequent chance for Coulibaly in the 23rd minute also went astray, keeping the score at 1-0 at halftime.
The second half saw an increased effort from Blessin’s team, though they struggled to break down Bremen’s resolute defense. The home side also posed occasional threats on the counterattack.
Opportunities for Bremen to solidify their lead arose late in the game; Schmid’s pass for Covic in the 84th minute was thwarted by Vasilj and Boniface narrowly missed a decisive goal in added time.
The result lifts Bremen to eleventh place in the league standings, while St. Pauli remains in ninth position.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Union Berlin 2-0, Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with RB Leipzig and Augsburg triumphed over Wolfsburg 3-1.
