Werder Bremen announced on Wednesday that Daniel Thiono has been signed as the club’s new head coach, according to club president Clemens Fritz.
“We had very productive talks with Daniel” Fritz said. “His football philosophy, his personality and his approach to the current sporting situation convinced us that he is the right choice. We are confident that with him we can achieve a turnaround”.

Thiono comes from his most recent role as manager of Fortuna Düsseldorf. Prior to that he had a playing career with Hamburger SV and later managed both Hamburger SV and VfL Osnabrück. Now 51 years old, he will lead the first training session of the new squad at 14:00 on Wednesday.

Thiono replaces Horst Steffen, who was relieved of his duties over the weekend. Werder Bremen currently sits 15th in the league standings.
