German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) voiced his concerns over Israel’s recent annexation proposals in the West Bank. Speaking at the Chancellery on Tuesday, he warned that the steps being discussed in Jerusalem would make the two‑state solution even harder to achieve. The federal government urged Israel to cease any annexation moves toward the so‑called E‑1 area, calling such a step a grave mistake.
Merz also announced that Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) would travel to Israel at his request to reinforce this position. “It is vital that we Europeans convey this message together” he said.
