What It Means

Kyiv – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has nominated Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Swyrydenko as the country’s new Prime Minister. The announcement followed a meeting between Zelenskyy and Swyrydenko on Monday, with the President indicating that the nomination is intended to facilitate a government restructuring and refresh its operational approach.

Zelenskyy stated that a detailed action plan outlining the new government’s priorities will be presented in the near future.

The nomination follows a period of speculation regarding the future of current Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal, who has held the position since March 2020. Recent weeks have seen increasing discussions about a potential change in leadership, fueled by reports of diminishing parliamentary support and concerns within his own political faction. Criticisms leveled against Schmyhal primarily focused on the nation’s challenging financial situation.
