Florian Wirtz is currently adjusting to the demands of his new club, Liverpool FC, following his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. In an interview, the midfielder acknowledged a noticeable shift in the physicality and intensity of play. “It’s not a completely different style of football, but the game is more physically and perhaps also more intensely run” Wirtz stated.
He described the adaptation process as ongoing, requiring weeks to fully acclimate. “I’m trying to learn something new every day, to think about what I can do better, even in training” he added, expressing confidence in his ability to find his rhythm with the team.
Wirtz also spoke about the increased scrutiny that comes with playing for a club of Liverpool’s stature. “Everything is on a grander scale and that creates more pressure to perform” he explained. “You always give your all, naturally, but here you feel you absolutely have to be at your best”. However, he views this pressure not as a hindrance, but as a source of motivation and energy. He emphasized that he was fully aware of the consistently high level of competition expected at Liverpool.
The player confirmed he understood the change in schedule, with fewer breaks between matches compared to the Bundesliga’s winter break. “But I’m embracing it and seeing how it goes” he said. “I’m in very good physical condition, so I’m confident I can handle it”.
