According to authorities, the first wolf attack on a person in Germany since the animal’s recent spread occurred on Monday in Hamburg. The wolf bit a woman in the face during the evening in a shopping arcade in Hamburg‑Altona, police said on Tuesday. The wolf, which had already been sighted in western Hamburg over the weekend, had become disoriented in the mall. After the bite it disappeared briefly before police located it near the Binnenalster. Authorities captured the wolf and transported it to a wildlife park, where it is expected to be released later. The injured woman was taken to a hospital, but has since been discharged.
