The new Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Cem Özdemir (Greens), announced during an appearance on ZDF’s “Heute Journal” that his green-black coalition intends to visibly distinguish itself from current political developments in Berlin. Özdemir stated that the plan is to “resolve things internally and only then, once we are united, appear to the public”.
The head of the state defined this moment as a unique opportunity to demonstrate that democracy can successfully solve problems. He emphasized the importance of respectful interaction and willingness to make concessions, positioning this collaborative approach as something that is currently absent in Berlin.
He also addressed the financial reserve that underpins the coalition’s projects, stating that this is a key area of difference between his government and the capital. According to Özdemir, his coalition “cannot accumulate debt like the world champions”.
