A World War II-era bomb discovered during construction work near Frankfurt Airport was successfully defused on Tuesday evening. A spokesperson for the Frankfurt Fire Department confirmed the successful operation to the dts news agency.
The resulting closure of the A5 motorway, which runs alongside the discovery site, was lifted before midnight, allowing traffic to resume.
Prior to the defusal, airport authorities had established a 500-meter safety perimeter as a precautionary measure. This led to the temporary evacuation of the “Intercity Hotel” and the construction site where the bomb was found.
Airport operations were unaffected due to the existing nighttime flight ban in Frankfurt.
