In the new YouGov poll released on Tuesday, both the Union and the AfD remain tied at the top. Compared with the February survey, both the CDU/CSU and the AfD gained one point, each now at 26 percent. The rest of the “Sunday question” results are as follows: SPD 14 percent (‑2), Greens 13 percent (+2), Left 9 percent (‑1), Alternative for Germany B S W 3 percent (‑1), FDP 3 percent (‑1), Others 6 percent (unchanged).
The poll also asked respondents about the war between the United States/Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Fifty‑four percent of Germans say the conflict is not at all or only somewhat justified, while only 27 percent view it as somewhat or fully justified. Support for the war is strongest among CDU/CSU voters (38 percent think it is justified, 49 percent think it is not) and AfD supporters (33 percent justify it, 47 percent reject it).
A narrow majority opposed the idea of the United States using German military facilities for operations in Iran: 53 percent rejected it, 20 percent favored it, 18 percent were undecided, and 10 percent expressed no clear stance.
Only four percent expect the war to end within a month. Sixteen percent anticipate a duration of one to less than three months, 15 percent foresee three to less than six months, 17 percent estimate six months to a year, and 18 percent believe it will last longer than a year. About a third of respondents-30 percent-are unsure.
The poll found that most Germans think the Iran conflict will have significant repercussions for Germany’s energy supply (70 percent) and living costs (68 percent). Sixty‑two percent see a major impact on the country’s economic development, 51 percent expect substantial effects on migration, whereas fewer expect large impacts on security (38 percent) or social cohesion (26 percent).
According to YouGov, 2,248 eligible voters aged 18 or older responded via an online panel between March 13 and 16. The sample was weighted for age, gender, education, region, political interest, and voting behaviour.
