The Dortmund Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a former watchman, aged 105, from the Nazi prisoner-of-war camp 326 VI K Senne in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to reports, the man is accused of assisting in multiple murders while serving as a guard at the camp.
The investigation stemmed from information provided to the Central Office for the Investigation of National Socialist Crimes in Ludwigsburg and was subsequently transferred to the Dortmund Prosecutor’s Office in February. Initially, the inquiry targeted two former guards; however, one of those suspects has since passed away.
Stalag 326 operated between 1941 and 1945. Over 300,000 prisoners passed through the camp, predominantly Soviet soldiers. Estimates of the death toll range from 15,000 to 70,000, victims who suffered severely from hunger, disease, and catastrophic sanitary conditions. In Germany, homicide and aiding murder do not expire statues.
