Former Green Leader Slams Online Trolling Following Aiwanger’s Sudden Death

Former Green federal chairman Omid Nouripour sharply criticized mean and hurtful social media posts following the death of Bavarian Economics Minister and Freie-Wähler leader Hubert Aiwanger. Speaking to RTL and ntv, Nouripour requested that everyone behave respectfully. “People should not speak about the dead in such a manner,” he said. “Instead, we must give the family and relatives the space they need to grieve. Therefore, it is appropriate simply to remain silent.”

When pressed about a specific instance where a local Green politician had made a caustic remark, Nouripour stressed that the origin of the critique-whether from his own party or another-is irrelevant. He insisted that Aiwanger was a man with a family, and regardless of whether he had harshly or unfairly criticized his political party, respect must be shown to those left behind.

Nouripour expressed his personal sorrow over the sudden death of the 55-year-old. “We were not friends; we had many differences of opinion,” he told the media. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that everyone was simply shocked. “Of course, when someone you know disappears so suddenly, it makes you think about our own own mortality.”

Aiwanger was found dead in a Berlin hotel on Wednesday. According to the public prosecutor’s office, there were no indications of foul play in the case.
