Defense Industry Gears Up

MBDA, a leading missile manufacturer, is preparing for a resumption of production for the “Taurus” cruise missile. According to Thomas Gottschild, CEO of MBDA Germany, in an interview with “Handelsblatt”, the company is “ready to immediately initiate production” pending an order from a customer.

Currently, efforts are underway to modernize and comprehensively maintain the existing Taurus inventory held by the German armed forces, a process tied to a mandate approved towards the end of 2024. The Taurus is expected to continue playing a key role in providing long-range strike capabilities.

The German military last received a shipment of Taurus missiles in 2010. Beyond Germany, Sweden, South Korea and Spain have also acquired the weapon system, though it has not been deployed by any of those nations. Approximately 600 units are believed to be in storage within the German military’s depots and MBDA is now working to make these existing stockpiles operational.
