Police Training Facilities Face “Catastrophic” Conditions in Germany

The Federal Police force is reporting significant deficiencies in its facilities, particularly within its training academies. A position paper, obtained by the “Münchner Merkur” newspaper, details concerns raised by the Police Union (GdP) and calls for modernization of existing properties.

The GdP argues that the Federal Police require facilities that meet the demands of a contemporary security organization. The document stresses that effective, future-proof policing necessitates infrastructural conditions supporting both professional training and the daily work and living conditions of officers.

Current conditions are demonstrably failing to meet these standards. The report details partially closed and dilapidated buildings, overcrowded training spaces and what it describes as “catastrophic” conditions in police housing – citing issues such as mold and rodent infestations. Training exercises are frequently conducted in temporary container units, reportedly leading to a significant decline in the quality of instruction for future officers.

The GdP is now requesting financial support from the federal government alongside a robust and strategic planning process. The organization asserts that the current state of facilities is inadequate for a modern Federal Police force and is urging a sustained investment strategy to improve working and living conditions for officers and ensure a high standard of training.
