A prominent German politician is urging faster progress on key initiatives within the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space. Ayse Asar, research policy spokesperson for the Green Party in the Bundestag, has voiced concerns over the lack of a clearly defined plan for future technologies and unresolved departmental responsibilities.
Asar’s comments, published Tuesday, follow a response to a parliamentary inquiry submitted by the Green Party regarding the first 100 days in office of Minister Dorothee Bär, who assumed leadership of the ministry in May. The inquiry revealed that the allocation of responsibilities between the research and economic ministries remains incomplete.
In responding to questions about specific legislative proposals, the ministry indicated that the focus for the current legislative period lies primarily on strategic processes, with a limited number of new laws anticipated from the ministry itself.
Asar contends that the initial period of grace has passed and expects decisive action from Minister Bär, specifically calling for measures to alleviate burdens on students. The comments reflect a call for greater clarity and momentum in the implementation of forward-looking technology and research policies.
