Kukies Rules Out Deutsche Bahn CEO Role

Former German Finance Minister Jörg Kukies has stated he is not interested in becoming the next CEO of Deutsche Bahn, the country’s national railway company. “That should be done by someone who knows the business and has experience in rail and logistics” he told the magazine “Der Spiegel”.

The statement follows an announcement on Thursday by Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder that the contract of current Bahn CEO Richard Lutz will not be renewed. Following this announcement, Kukies was widely discussed in media reports as a potential successor to Lutz, alongside other prominent figures.

Kukies served as State Secretary in both the Federal Finance Ministry and the Federal Chancellery and briefly acted as Finance Minister following the dissolution of the previous governing coalition. Prior to his political career, he held a position at the US investment bank Goldman Sachs, most recently as Head of Germany.
