A tragic incident unfolded Saturday morning at a cemetery parking lot in Krefeld-Gellep-Stratum, resulting in the deaths of two elderly individuals. Local authorities report that a 72-year-old man and his 72-year-old sister were struck by a vehicle as it was reversing out of a parking space.
The collision occurred around 10:00 AM when a 77-year-old driver, while maneuvering his car, impacted the siblings. Despite prompt response from emergency services, both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses to the incident were present but sustained no injuries.
A specialized traffic accident investigation team from Recklinghausen has been deployed to determine the precise circumstances leading to the collision. Bereavement support is being offered to the deceased’s relatives, the driver involved and any affected bystanders.
