The leader of the Young Socialists within Germany’s SPD, Philipp Türmer, has voiced agreement with recent criticisms leveled against Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) by former Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Green Party). “I share the criticism and I am confident that a large part of my parliamentary group does as well” Türmer stated in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel” newspaper, published Wednesday.
Türmer further commented that Klöckner has, “predictably earned the title of worst Bundestag President in recent history in just over one hundred days”. He expressed confidence that she would maintain this position throughout the current legislative period.
The criticism follows remarks made by Habeck to the “taz” newspaper, where he accused Klöckner of exacerbating societal divisions. He asserted that she has historically struggled to foster consensus, consistently engaging in polarization and polemics.
