Philipp Türmer, the leader of the Free Young Socialists (Juso), dismissed the Union’s criticism regarding the possibility of a Red-Green-Red coalition in Berlin. Speaking to Phoenix, Türmer suggested that he felt members of the Union had been politically confused in recent days and weeks. He instead insisted that the CDU first needs to address its own shortcomings and provide a clear political stance, particularly concerning its demarcation from the AfD at the state level.
While questions remain about whether the Berliner Linke is genuinely willing to govern, the election ultimately showed that Berliners desire a government fundamentally different from the one currently led by the CDU. Consequently, a partnership between the CDU, the Greens, and the SPD is not viable, particularly because of the central campaigning issue of housing. Türmer pointed out that the CDU in Berlin is practically untethered from the local landlord lobby.
He recounted personally experiencing how the interests of the wealthy are defended with great intensity. In his view, the party has essentially stopped caring about the millions of Berliners being unable to afford their rent.
