US Stocks Rise, Nasdaq Falls Short of Record High

US markets saw modest gains on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at 45,514 points, a 0.3% increase from the previous trading day.

Shortly before the market close in New York, the broader S&P 500 reached approximately 6,495 points, up 0.2%, while the Nasdaq 100 was calculated at around 23,760 points, marking a 0.5% increase.

The Nasdaq 100 briefly reached a new all-time high during the session but was unable to maintain the upward trend until the close. Strong performance from chip manufacturer Broadcom, with its stock rising by over 3%, contributed significantly to the technology index’s gains.

Investor sentiment was buoyed by a disappointing jobs report released on Friday, increasing expectations of potential interest rate cuts. Several analysts have adjusted their forecasts to anticipate a prompt and potentially more substantial reduction in rates by the Federal Reserve.

The Euro strengthened against the US Dollar, trading at $1.1764, equivalent to €0.8501 per Dollar.

Gold prices experienced a notable increase, reaching $3,637 per fine ounce (+1.4%). This translates to €99.39 per gram.

Oil prices also rose, with a barrel of Brent North Sea crude costing $66.12 late Monday, a 62-cent or 1.0% increase from the previous day’s closing price.
