A section of the A9 motorway near Munich experienced significant disruption on Thursday morning following a climate activist demonstration. Six individuals staged a partial roadblock on the highway, near the Allianz Arena, with three reportedly using methods to secure themselves to the roadway. A banner referencing the upcoming IAA automotive trade fair was also displayed.
Police stated that attempts were made to persuade the activists to disperse, but these efforts proved unsuccessful. Law enforcement subsequently moved to dissolve the assembly, a process that took approximately three hours.
The affected lane of the A9 was reopened to traffic at 10:35 a.m. after being initially blocked from around 7:45 a.m. Investigations are underway against those involved, with potential charges including coercion. Additionally, authorities are reviewing potential violations of the Bavarian Assembly Act.
The group comprises individuals aged between 23 and 67, consisting of four women and five men, originating from various German federal states and neighboring countries.
