Following a unanimous vote in the Bundestag to waive his parliamentary immunity earlier Thursday, searches were conducted in several locations including Berlin, Dresden and Brussels.
Prosecutors from the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Saxony State Criminal Police Office have been investigating AfD Member of Parliament Maximilian Krah since May on suspicion of bribery as a member of the European Parliament and money laundering in connection with payments originating from China.
On Thursday, investigators searched Krah’s offices within the German Bundestag in Berlin, as well as residential and business premises in Dresden and Limbach-Oberfrohna (Saxony). With the support of Eurojust and Belgian judicial authorities, searches were also carried out in Brussels.
Authorities reported that evidence, including documents and electronic devices, was seized and will be analyzed. The searches were ordered by the Higher Regional Court of Dresden.
