Police Union and CSU Demand Minister Acknowledge Migrant Background of Protesters After German Gen-Z Riots

The debate regarding the identity of rioters following the Gen-Z demonstrations in Germany is escalating. The Police Union (GdP) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) have sharply criticized Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) for his stance against naming perpetrators who have a migration background.

Andreas Roßkopf, the National Vice President of the GdP, told “Bild am Sonntag” that data and investigations from Frankfurt, and other cities, reveal a “clear perpetrator picture” concerning last weekend’s riots. He stated that both left-wing extremists and individuals from migrant backgrounds have been explicitly identified. While Roßkopf affirmed that generalizations must be avoided, he insisted that the investigation results cannot be overlooked. The union official severely criticized Pistorius and other politicians who are vehemently refusing to accept these findings, stating they “must now be given a yellow card.”

The CSU supports the police union’s stance. Martin Huber, the CSU General Secretary, accused the defense minister of denying reality in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag.” Huber argued that “we must recognize and clearly name the realities,” asserting that “the majority of the drivers of the chaos have a migration background.” He warned that anyone who denies this fact or intentionally omits it is propagating dangerous politics that disregards reality.
