Germany Ticket Price Hike Sparks Opposition

The leading figure within the Green Party parliamentary group, Britta Hasselmann, has voiced opposition to potential price increases for the Deutschlandticket, suggesting a rise to between 62 and 64 euros would be detrimental.

Speaking to RTL and ntv, Hasselmann emphasized that any increase would negatively impact the ticket’s value, particularly for the growing number of users – currently exceeding 13 million – who rely on its affordability for their daily routines. She underscored the importance of predictability and low cost for this user base.

Instead of advocating for a price hike, Hasselmann expressed support for a price reduction. She specifically highlighted the success of the former 49-euro ticket and urged a collaborative approach between the federal government and individual states to find a sustainable solution for maintaining its affordability.
