The Coordination Council responsible for the Deutschlandticket-which includes federal and state representatives, municipal peak associations, and the transport industry-is set to finalize the ticket’s new price for the coming year this Wednesday. According to reports cited by the “Rheinische Post”, the council is discussing a potential cost nearing 67 euros, with 66.90 euros being a figure under consideration.
The current ticket price stands at 63 euros. The new price calculation is based on a cost index that takes into account various factors, including personnel, energy, and operating expenses.
While the determination is now necessary, according to a spokesperson for the industry, approximately three months will be needed to roll out the changes, including updated customer information and sales structures.
However, not all stakeholders are comfortable with a price hike. Detlef Neuß, honorary chairman of the passenger association Pro Bahn, told the newspaper that “just what is needed right now,” adding that his association reluctantly accepts another rise. He argued that rather than increasing the cost further, a discount for those who use the Deutschlandticket should be implemented, similar to the fuel discounts available to car drivers.
Nevertheless, the Vehicle Associations (VDV) has emphasized that the final pricing decision is required immediately.
