Schnitzer Remains in Charge

Professor Monika Schnitzer has been re-elected to lead the German Council of Economic Experts, also known as the “Wirtschaftsweisen”. The Council members confirmed her reappointment for a second term during a vote held on Thursday, adhering to the statutory mandate of a three-year appointment duration.

Professor Schnitzer currently holds the position of Professor of Comparative Economic Research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). She assumed the chairmanship of the Council in October 2022. Her research focuses on areas including innovation, competition and multinational corporations.

Established in 1963 through legislation, the Council of Economic Experts provides scientific analysis of Germany’s overall economic development. It is legally obligated to produce an annual report for the Federal Government. The current membership comprises Professors Achim Truger, Veronika Grimm, Ulrike Malmendier and Martin Werding, alongside Professor Schnitzer.
