Drone Defense: Germany Plans Rapid Upgrade

The German Federal Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, is advocating for accelerated investment and development in counter-drone capabilities. Speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, Dobrindt emphasized the urgency of the issue, stating that it will be a central topic at the upcoming Interior Ministers’ Conference (IMK).

The IMK, scheduled to take place in Bremen from December 1st to 1st, 2025, will provide a forum for discussing and coordinating efforts. Dobrindt’s priority is to strengthen collaboration between federal and state authorities, fostering the creation of new defensive abilities. A key goal is to integrate the drone defense capabilities of both law enforcement and military branches.

The Minister highlighted the evolving nature of the landscape, describing a “technological arms race” between increasingly sophisticated drone threats and the means to counter them, spanning both hybrid and conventional military domains. He stressed the need for proactive measures to ensure preparedness and address emerging security challenges.
