The German government has appointed Martin Blessing as the new Special Representative for Investment, a move designed to bolster Germany’s attractiveness as a global investment destination. Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the appointment on Monday in Berlin, highlighting Blessing’s extensive international business and financial contacts and his reputation for driving investment.
The Special Representative’s role is intended to serve as a dedicated point of contact for international investors, enhancing Germany’s profile in the competitive landscape for foreign direct investment. Blessing indicated plans for an “investor conference” as part of his efforts.
A core focus of the position involves mobilizing private capital from abroad. The Chancellery emphasized Blessing’s crucial role in directly engaging with potential investors, showcasing the strengths of Germany as an investment location. This will involve close collaboration with relevant government ministries and federal economic development institutions.
Blessing will also assume the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), a key governmental body responsible for foreign trade and location marketing. Prior to this appointment, Blessing held positions at consulting firm McKinsey, Dresdner Bank (later Commerzbank) and UBS.
