Activists from the “New Generation” group disrupted proceedings at the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus, the headquarters of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, on Monday. According to CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann, the group, identifying themselves as successors to the “Last Generation” intended to affix themselves to a bust of Konrad Adenauer within the building during a CDU executive board meeting.
Linnemann reported that the activists attempted to attach a large banner to the exterior of the building. He confirmed that the incident has triggered suspicions of property damage, trespassing and potential breaches of public order, which are currently under investigation by police. He characterized the event as representing “a new dimension of attack” on the party.
Linnemann commended the actions of a tradesman and a technician who intervened to prevent the activists from further disrupting the proceedings.
On their Instagram account, “New Generation” accuses the CDU of mismanaging taxpayer money. They claim the party maintains support for fossil fuel subsidies and tax breaks for high-income earners, leading to significant financial shortfalls in other areas. Videos released by the group show one activist attempting to gain entry to the building disguised as a “private investigator” carrying a hooded sweatshirt and a briefcase, before being apprehended by police.
